Gametime Sports – Game Summary & Recap

Game 2 of the 2025 World Series saw the Los Angeles Dodgers bounce back with a 5–1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, evening the series at one game apiece. Yoshinobu Yamamoto was masterful on the mound, throwing a complete game while allowing just four hits, one earned run, and striking out eight. His pinpoint control and poise kept Toronto’s potent lineup quiet all night, retiring 17 consecutive batters at one point. The Dodgers’ offense was timely, with Will Smith and Max Muncy delivering back-to-back solo home runs in the seventh inning to break a 1–1 tie.
Toronto’s lone run came in the third inning when Alejandro Kirk hit a sacrifice fly to score George Springer, who had reached base after being hit by a pitch. Kevin Gausman pitched well for the Blue Jays through six innings, striking out nine and allowing just one run before faltering in the seventh. The bullpen struggled to contain the Dodgers in the eighth, surrendering two more runs on a wild pitch and a fielder’s choice. Despite the loss, Toronto’s defense remained sharp, committing no errors and turning a pair of double plays.

Will Smith was the offensive standout for Los Angeles, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including the game’s opening run in the first and a key insurance RBI in the eighth. Shohei Ohtani scored twice and added a walk, while Freddie Freeman and Andy Pages each reached base and contributed to the scoring rallies. The Dodgers finished with six hits and went 3-for-7 with runners in scoring position, capitalizing on key opportunities late in the game.
For Toronto, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette were held hitless, a rare quiet night for the heart of the lineup. The Blue Jays managed just four hits and failed to reach base after the third inning, a testament to Yamamoto’s dominance. With the series now tied 1–1, the momentum shifts to Los Angeles for Game 3, where the Dodgers will look to build on their pitching success and the Blue Jays aim to reignite their offense. It’s shaping up to be a tightly contested Fall Classic between two evenly matched powerhouses.
Dalton’s take
The Dodgers displayed their championship mettle this evening in Toronto claiming back home advantage as the next three will be in LA. What a gem by Yamamoto!, particularly in today’s baseball landscape where the complete game is a dinosaur. Besides the win, Yamamoto’s pitching master class also allowed the Dodgers to not have to use their bullpen which has been shaky all year including the postseason.
Hey! you can’t expect the Toronto offense to mash opponents’ pitching every single game so I don’t think there’s any reason for fans to be worried. Great pitching usually dominates great hitting, but in any case, the World Series is tied 1-1 now and these two great teams will face off Monday night in L.A. I don’t believe Scherzer will repeat his commanding Game 6 performance against Seattle in the ALCS, however, I feel if doesn’t implode and keeps the game close, the Blue Jays can possibly mount a come back from a small deficit.
Will Tyler Glasnow duplicate his outstanding performance against the Brewers in the NLCS striking out 7 in 6 innings?!? Should be a good, close Game 3.

Blake Snell, who entered with a 0.86 ERA in the postseason, was tagged for four earned runs over five innings and took the loss. Rookie Trey Yesavage pitched 5.1 innings for Toronto, allowing two runs and striking out six, while Seranthony Domínguez earned the win in relief.
